Talking HIV

There is no one formula for talking to your children about HIV for the first time. Each family is different and you need to do this in a way which is comfortable for you.

If your child has HIV, you may be getting support from a nurse, doctor or psychologist. You may go to a support group or a service where there is someone there who can help you. You may decide this is something you want to do on your own.

This area of the site has been written to help you think about how to tell your child and feel prepared when you do it. Often, only you will know the answers as you know your child the best.

In this section we look at what is the right age to talk to your child about HIV, offer some guidance on doing this, look at ways you can plan to tell your child.
